Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer Announces Proposed Precinct Changes to Enhance Voter Understanding and Election Efficiency

Douglas County, NV – Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans has announced proposed updates to the County's election precincts, which will be presented for informational purposes to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) during its meeting on January 22, 2026.
In accordance with Nevada Revised Statute (NRS 293), the County Clerk is responsible for establishing election precincts, with final approval from the Nevada Secretary of State and Legislative Counsel Bureau to ensure compliance with state and federal laws. To promote transparency and keep the community informed in the electoral process, the Clerk-Treasurer has chosen to bring the proposed precinct maps before the BOCC for presentation and discussion, though no formal action by the Board is required.
The new precinct plan introduces a simplified, intuitive numbering system designed to make it easier for voters to understand their districts at a glance. Precinct numbers will transition from sequential identifiers to a meaningful three-digit format:
- First digit: County Commission District
- Second digit: School Board District
- Third digit: Fire District
For example, precinct 252 would indicate County Commission District 2, School Board District 5, and East Fork Fire District 2.
This innovative approach will help voters quickly identify their representation across key local districts. Additionally, it will streamline ballot creation for the Elections Office. Under the proposed plan, the total number of precincts will be reduced from 41 to 33, improving administrative efficiency while maintaining accessibility.
