DOUGLAS COUNTY INVITES COMMUNITY TO GROUNDBREAKING CELEBRATION FOR NEW JUSTICE CENTER
Minden, NV – Douglas County is pleased to invite the community to a groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of construction on the new Justice Center building on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to the community and will take place at the future Justice Center site on Buckeye Road in Minden.
The Justice Center Project reflects over a decade of deliberate planning and collaboration by county leadership. In 2014, the County began evaluating the limitations of the existing Judicial Law Enforcement Center (JLEC), which had reached capacity and could no longer accommodate the county’s growing judicial and law enforcement needs. The county worked extensively with Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects (TSK) to design a purpose-built facility to meet modern security, operational, and accessibility standards, while preparing the county’s justice system for the future.
“I’m proud to see this strategic vision of our public safety stakeholders, judicial officials, and the Board of County Commissioners come to life,” said Sharla Hales, Chairwoman of the Board of County Commissioners. “This facility is the most significant capital investment this organization has made since the construction of the Douglas County Community Center. It represents the county’s commitment to excellence in public service and to meeting the evolving needs of our residents and justice partners for decades to come.”
At the July 17, 2025 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, the board voted to approve a $47.9 million contract with CORE Construction to begin the second and final phase of the project. Early investments at the project site, including the widening of Buckeye Road, comprehensive site grading, utility infrastructure, and the construction of a central utility building, have already been completed. Funding for construction has already been secured through the Justice Center Project Fund.
“As the Chief Prosecutor who has been involved in this project from its inception, I am excited for the entire community as this new Justice Center will enhance public safety through more efficient prosecutions and improved support for victims of crime,” said District Attorney Mark Jackson.
“The new Justice Center represents a generational investment in public trust and access to justice,” said District Court Judge Tod Young.
The event will feature remarks from the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, court officials, and project partners. The groundbreaking ceremony will immediately follow. Attendees may enjoy light refreshments, and an opportunity to meet with members of the project team and County staff. Community members are encouraged to attend and witness this significant moment in Douglas County’s history.
