Emergency Management

About Emergency Management

The Office of Emergency Management is responsible for planning, response and recovery activities associated with natural and man-made emergencies and disasters throughout the County and coordination of those activities with Local Agencies, and State Agencies. On this page you will find links to information that will help you prepare for an emergency in Douglas County. The information that you can access from this webpage is some of the information that the Office of Emergency Management uses to prepare and respond to an emergency.

REVERSE 911

Local emergency management officials will continually be updating the local media during the events of an emergency. Citizens should monitor local television stations and radio emergency alerts. It is a good idea to have a battery operated radio included in your evacuation kit. Residents can also sign up for Reverse 911 an automated system that will call your cell phone in times of an emergency. Register here.

Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Douglas county Hazard Mitigation Plan has recently undergone an update by Douglas county Emergency Management and other local, state and federal agencies. Under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (Public Law 93-288), as amended by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, local governments are required to develop a hazard mitigation plan as a condition for receiving certain types of emergency and non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for mitigation projects and emergency response. Hazard Mitigation Plans must be updated every five years
