Kahle Complete Street Project

1

The Kahle Complete Street Project is a major infrastructure upgrade transforming a half-mile stretch of Kahle Drive in Stateline, Nevada. Led by the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District (NTCD), the project will improve safety, access, and environmental resilience in this key South Shore corridor.

The redesigned street will include new sidewalks, bike lanes, pedestrian crossings, underground utilities, and stormwater treatment systems. These upgrades aim to reduce flooding, improve water quality in Lake Tahoe, and provide safer, more inclusive access for all users—drivers, walkers, and cyclists alike.

Construction began in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by October 2026. The total cost is estimated at $3.8–$3.9 million, funded by a mix of federal, state, local, and private partners including Douglas County, the U.S. Forest Service, EPA, HUD, TRPA, NV Energy, and Barton Health.

In addition to improving traffic flow and drainage, the project will enhance access to nearby trails and parks, reduce wildfire risk by undergrounding utilities, and support broadband expansion in a low-income neighborhood.

A community kickoff was held June 24, 2025, marking the start of construction and celebrating the project's benefits for public safety, mobility, and environmental protection.
