Welcome to the Douglas County Recorder's Office!

The mission of the Recorder's Office is to record, permanently preserve, and provide convenient access to public records, with superior quality and efficient customer service. The public records located in the Douglas County Recorder's Office include documents related to real property, such as deeds and deeds of trust, homesteads, liens, easements and many others. We also record maps, mining documents and marriage certificates.

All of the services provided by the Recorder's Office are mandated by Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 247. We hope you find our website to be a good resource for information, forms, access to the public records and link to other offices. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are available to assist you in person, by phone, or by email.

Index & Images Available

Digital images displayed online are unofficial copies, as noted by the “COPY” watermark. Official Record copies can also be purchased and downloaded online for $1 per page. Please contact the office at [email protected] or (775) 782-9025 to purchase certified copies of any land records.

1972-Present - Recorded documents from 1972 to the present are fully digitized and searchable online by keying in the party name or document number. Ongoing efforts are being made to index historic records back through 1960. 

1855-1972 - Digital index and document images for Official Records 1960-1972 and Deeds, Kinsey & Patent records 1855-1959 are searchable online.   

MAPS - All recorded maps are searchable online and can be searched by party name, document number or by section, township and range using the Advanced Search feature.

MARRIAGES - Index only can be searched online for marriage records 1949-present. Certified or non-certified copies can be ordered online. Marriage record images are not viewable online. 

Recorded document images
from historic records not available online are searchable on microfilm or microfiche on site at the Douglas County Recorder's Office.

About Shawnyne Garren, County Recorder

Shawnyne Garren began working for the Douglas County Recorder’s office in 2007 and was elected to office in 2022. In her previous positions held, she oversaw the daily operations of the Recorder’s office and Records Management division and supervised the staff in both offices. She served as lead project manager and department liaison over many technology-related projects, including the 2014 conversion and implementation of modernized recording software, as well as the digitization and indexing of historic land and marriage records, and the launch of the Recording Notification Service.

She moved to the Carson Valley with her family in 1992. Shawnyne is a graduate of Western Governor’s University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She is a graduate of the 2016 class of Leadership Douglas County and is a proud member of the Recorders Association of Nevada, Property Records Industry Association (PRIA), Nevada County Fiscal Officers Association and the Business Council of Douglas County.

Shawnyne serves as the Recorders Association of Nevada Secretary and Government Co-chair of PRIA Local Silver State North. She also serves in several committee positions for PRIA and is a board member for Austin’s House of Nevada and Fore the Kids Douglas County, and she is an active member of Kiwanis of Carson Valley, all community programs that provide much need support for youth in the rural Northern Nevada region.
