Clerk-Treasurer Invites Public to Election Office Open House and Voting Equipment Showcase

Douglas County, NV – Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans is pleased to invite community members to an Election Office Open House featuring a special showcase of new in-person voting equipment. This event offers residents an opportunity to see firsthand how the County is modernizing the voting experience while maintaining the highest standards of security, accuracy, and accessibility.

Event Details
Date: April 20, 2026
Time: 3-6 p.m.
Location: BOCC Chambers, 1616 8th Street, Minden

During the open house, attendees will observe live demonstrations of the County’s new Ballot Marking Devices (BMDs). These devices provide voters with a user-friendly touchscreen interface and produce a full-size, voter-verifiable paper ballot. Election staff will guide visitors through the voting process, explain key security features, and answer questions about how the technology strengthens voter confidence and election integrity.

Guests will also have the opportunity to tour the facility and learn about the full lifecycle of a ballot — from voter check-in to final tabulation.

How It Works

  • Touchscreen Selection: Voters make selections by tapping contest bubbles on a screen
  • Print Your Ballot: After confirming selections, the system prints a full-size paper ballot
  • Verify Before Casting: The printed ballot is identical to a hand-marked ballot and can be easily reviewed
  • Secure Tabulation: Ballots are scanned and counted using a secure, auditable system that is access-restricted and not connected to the internet

What to Expect

  • Live demonstrations of voting equipment
  • Hands-on experience with the Ballot Marking Device
  • Opportunity to ask questions and meet election staff
  • Learn how Douglas County ensures secure, transparent, and accurate elections

This event is open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend, explore the new equipment, and learn how their vote is securely counted.

Come see, try, and learn how your vote is counted with confidence!
