Douglas County Community and Senior Center Small Kitchen Fire Extinguished by Sprinkler SystemGardnerville, NV- On the morning of June 25, 2020 a small fire ignited at 4:20 AM in the kitchen of the Douglas County Senior Center. The smoke alarm went off and the fire was ultimately extinguished shortly after by a single head of the building’s fire sprinkler system. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the East Fork Fire Protection District responded shortly thereafter.

The fire was apparently started by a single case of hotdog buns left on a steam table that was accidentally left on, causing the cardboard box containing the hotdog buns to ignite. No damage to the Douglas County Community and Senior Center kitchen was reported.

Staff of the Douglas County Community and Senior Center are extremely thankful to the well-designed fire suppression system within the building and the first responders of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the East Fork Fire Protection District who prevented what could have been a very serious structure fire.

The Douglas County Community Center is currently open during normal business hours and it is safe for residents to occupy the area.
