Douglas County Launches New Website

Posted on 11/02/2018
We are excited to announce Douglas County’s new and improved website. The new website includes two new sub-sites for Douglas County Community Services and the Douglas County Library. These engaging, user-friendly redesigns feature local photography, a colorful interface with intuitive buttons, and icons making navigation much easier. The new websites are Mobile Responsive, easily viewed from all devices including tablets and smartphones – something that was missing from the previous website.

“This redesign was truly about providing modern navigation and compatibility while showcasing the beauty of where we live,” said Melissa Blosser, Community Relations Coordinator and Public Information Manager. “The challenge we face is everyone navigates through things differently, so the team really looked at ways users could navigate through the site and find information quickly using various paths.”

Redesign Process
A website team was formed and made up of Douglas County staff. A survey was disseminated to the public to collect feedback on what the new website should encompass. The unique design was a collaborative effort between CivicLive the chosen vendor, and the process took about a year.

Redesign Features Include:
Douglas County Homepage
The Douglas County homepage features our most frequently visited pages, county news, a business portal, events, meetings, and during an emergency will feature a banner alert page.

A new section titled “I Want To,” was created to allow users to find information by need verses how it was previously listed by department. In addition, residents can now download the CivicLive App for their smartphones and use it to submit photos to report a concern such as street repairs, code violations, and any other concerns. The online link to report a concern can be found here: https://www.douglascountynv.gov/i_want_to/report___/a_concern

Residents can also now sign up to receive text notifications or emails here: https://asp.schoolmessenger.com/douglasnv/subscriber/newsubscriber.php

Douglas County Library
The new library subsite contains a wealth of information about the library’s resources, services, and events. The enhanced navigation allows for quick access to the library’s online catalog and digital resources. With a library card, users can sign up for digital ebooks, audiobooks, music, movies, magazines, and more through the eLibrary section of the site. It is now easier than ever to connect with the library.

Community Services
The new Community Services subsite highlights each Division within the Department and makes navigation easy whether you are seeking information about Parks, Recreation, Senior Services, Social Services, Animal Services or Weed Control. New to the website are fillable forms for a number of programs and virtual tours of parks and facilities. In addition, online services are now available allowing customers to view availability of community center activity rooms and park amenities. And finally, registration for Kids Club and youth sport leagues and reserving campsites at Topaz Lake Campground are now all available online.

“We are very proud of this new website, but we also want to continue to receive feedback, so we can make adjustments to better suit the needs of our residents, businesses and visitors” said Melissa Blosser.
