Douglas County Receives Nevada Department of Investigation Report and AG Declination Letter
Posted on 02/01/2019

Douglas County Staff, received a copy of the Nevada Department of Investigations summary investigation report regarding the fraudulent scheme which included the theft and embezzlement of tires in Douglas County by Chris Oakden, a former county employee, and a copy of the State of Nevada Office of the Attorney General declination letter.

Chief Deputy Attorney General Michael Kovac sent a letter to the Nevada Department of Public Safety Investigation Division (NDI) declining prosecution in re: Christopher Oakden, et al. The AG letter states:

“This year, the Department of Public Safety provided the Office of the Attorney General a Case Summary Report and supporting documentation regarding allegations of theft against Christopher Oakden and others. It is my understanding that, at that same time, the detective who provided the Office of the Attorney General with said Report and documentation informed the Office of the Attorney General that he did not believe that there was sufficient evidence to prove that anyone other than Oakden committed any crimes in relation to these events. The Office of the Attorney General has reached the same conclusion. Given the fact that Oakden is now deceased, the Office of the Attorney General will be taking no further action and considers the matter to be closed.”

Inquiries regarding the summary report and/or the declination letter should be submitted to the Nevada Department of Investigations as the custodian of the record.
