Tahoe Justice Court is committed to the impartial administration of justice and the protection of rights of individuals and society.
Our court has jurisdiction in matters pertaining to small claims, evictions, traffic citations, misdemeanors and limited jurisdiction regarding civil actions, felony, and gross misdemeanor matters. We perform a myriad of duties and functions mandated by the State Legislature and the Supreme Court. We provide assistance to, and work closely with, various justice and law enforcement agencies. In addition, the Court issues search warrants and arrest warrants, holds arraignments and trials for misdemeanor cases, and handles gross misdemeanor and felony cases from the initial arrest through the preliminary hearing stage, including bail setting and probable cause determinations. The Court is responsible for issuing, reporting, and monitoring temporary protective orders for domestic violence, stalking and harassment, and for protection of minors. The Court hears civil cases with jurisdictional amounts up to $10,000.00 and small claims cases up to $5,000.00. The citizens who file cases such as small claims, protective orders, requests for traffic trials, or evictions are allowed to represent themselves, while civil cases are handled through the citizen’s attorney.
