Employment Program
In June 2009, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners ratified a Douglas County Social Services grant application for Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) incentive funding. Grant funding was awarded to develop an Employment Training and Job Development program in accordance with the Economic Vitality Objective of Douglas County's Strategic Plan.
In September 2009, the Douglas County Social Services Employment Training/Job Development Program (ETJDP) was established. The primary functions of this program are to assist the County's unemployed residents find employment; assist the underemployed improve their job situation, investigate what local business requires and desires of the workforce pool, and linking the job seeker and employer.
A key component to the program is partnering with local businesses, agencies and employment training providers, Douglas County Public Library, Nevada JobConnect, Hire Dynamics, Blue Ribbon Personnel Services, Western Nevada College, Job Opportunities in Nevada (JOIN) and economic development organizations along with other related services. These partnerships have allowed ETJDP to increase resources to our clients and also to position them for current and future employment opportunities.
ETJDP provides employment and life skills training to individuals who are unemployed or underemployed. Job Seeker Services are provided at no charge and are customized to best support each individual. Services include individual job readiness assessment, individual goal plan development, assistance with resume preparation, composing cover letters, job hunting skills, and interviewing tips. Also provided are workshops, seminars and a networking and support group.
