Douglas County is geographically located in western Nevada approximately 15 miles south of our State's capitol, Carson City. Within our County's 750 square miles, 50,000 residents have the opportunity to enjoy the south shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe, the very scenic and attractive agricultural land in Carson Valley, and the unlimited recreational opportunities that Topaz Lake offers. The Douglas County Sheriff's Department serves as the only local law enforcement agency. There are a total of 118 people employed by our Department that includes Divisions in Patrol, Investigations, Jail and Administrative Services. Our Department motto of "A Tradition of Service" represents our employee's commitment to serve the citizens of Douglas County and to those who visit. Our youth educational programs such as D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness Resistance Education), G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) and our Law Enforcement Explorers remain distinct priorities with our agency. Our Department's SWAT, Crisis Negotiation Team, Bomb Squad, K-9, motors, boat patrol and School Safety Intervention Teams are just a few of the many specialized opportunities that are made available to our employees.
