Airport Use Ordinance - Draft Options

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently notified the Minden – Tahoe Airport that operating weight limits at the Airport need to be changed to reflect accurate weight limits or the Airport will be held in non-compliance and will lose Federal funds to maintain the public facility. Click here to see the letter from the FAA. Any change to the current ordinance requires approval by Douglas County voters. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has approved placing the issue on the November 2010 ballot. Click here to see additional information about the Airport, the compliance issue and the process for public engagement.

After a series of eight public workshops and numerous community group and neighborhood association meetings, modified draft ballot language was presented at a Board meeting on November 5, 2009. 2008 Proposed FEMA Flood Zone Remap

In April of 2008, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) proposed remapping of flood zones within Carson Valley. The County filed an appeal to FEMA in September 2008, citing flawed hydrology supported by two independent reports. In May 2009, the County submitted a third report again refuting the conclusions of the 2008, Preliminary Flood Impact Study. FEMA has dismissed the County’s studies and informed the County that the Draft Flood Insurance Rate Maps will become effective in January, 2010. The County continues to appeal FEMA's restudy and remapping. The County's consultant, Manhard Consulting Ltd's preliminary findings and supporting documentation are available by clicking the two highlighted links.
