Western Nevada College is the "Gem" of the Nevada System of Higher Education. Doulgas County campus includes computer & distance learning capability. Science facilities growth increased 250% from 2003 to near capacity in 2005 with more than 750 students enrolled each semester.

• An example of the type of partnership that benefits local development is the relationship forged by the UNR School of Business, Western Nevada College, Starbucks, GE Energy's Bently Nevada and other employers that resulted in the establishment of the extended studies Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree program in Douglas County.
