County Approves Budget
The Board approved its FY09-10 final budget at a public hearing on May 18, 2009. This budget required a number of expenditure reductions and personnel cost containment strategies to offset declining revenues. Click here to see a brief summary of the FY09-10 final budget. Community Assessment
An initial Community Assessment was conducted by the Nevada Rural Development Council during the week of May 11-14, 2009. Additional sessions will be held June 3rd for the Topaz Ranch Estates area. Strategic Plan
In February 2009 the County Board updated its Strategic Plan which contains goals, objectives, and priorities to guide staff during the next few years.Click here to view the updated Strategic Plan.
2008 Proposed FEMA Flood Zone Remap
In April of 2008, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) proposed remapping of flood zones within Carson Valley. The County filed an appeal to FEMA in September 2008, citing flawed hydrology supported by two independent reports. In May 2009, the County submitted a third report again refutting the method of hydrology. The County continues to appeal FEMA's restudy and remapping. The County's consultant, Manhard Consulting Ltd's preliminary findings and supporting documentation are available by clicking the two highlighted links.
Got Bears?
Are you having problems with your trash attracting bears? You are not alone. According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) the number of bear complaints has risen sharply in the last ten years, partly due to the increase of people living in bear habitat. For lots of good information about being safe around bears and eliminating your trash as an attractant to bears, visit the the NDOW website.
Utility Operator Fee
In May of 2007 the Board of County Commissioners was faced with the difficult decision to either reduce expenditures further, which would reduce county services, or use reserves (savings) to balance the fiscal year 2007-2008 General Fund and Room Tax budgets. Read more...
