Strategic Plan

In March 2008, the County Board initially adopted a Strategic Plan containing goals, objectives, and priorities to guide staff during the next six to 24 months.  The Board will discuss the plan again at its May 1, 2008 Board meeting.   Click here  to view the Strategic Plan.

County approves difficult budget

On May 1, 2008, the County Board tentatively adopted a budget for County funds totaling $121 million.  The County, like much of the state and nation, is dealing with reduced revenue sources such as sales and room tax.  The tentative budget includes holding vacant approximately 26 full time equivalent positions and a reduction in a number of services.  Final approval of the budget is scheduled for May 19th.  Click here to see a summary of the tentative budget. 

Draft Floodplain Ordinance

Douglas County is in the process of updating the Floodplain Ordinance.  A workshop will be held on May 14, 2008 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the CVIC in Minden to discuss the proposed changes and solicit comments.  Click here for the workshop flyer, or click here to view the proposed changes. 

New Open Space Plan

Got Bears?

Are you having problems with your trash attracting bears?  You are not alone.  According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) the number of bear complaints has risen sharply in the last ten years, partly due to the increase of people living in bear habitat.  For lots of good information about being safe around bears and eliminating your trash as an attractant to bears, visit the the NDOW website .

Utility Operator Fee

In May of 2007 the Board of County Commissioners was faced with the difficult decision to either reduce expenditures further, which would reduce county services, or use reserves (savings) to balance the fiscal year 2007-2008 General Fund and Room Tax budgets.  Read more...
