Celebrating a decade of success!
Over the past decade, ten excellent economic development plans have been completed by Douglas County and our economic development partners. These studies recommend nearly 600 different goals, objectives, and strategies. At the same time, nearly every study is consistent in expressing the community's desire for Douglas County to strike a balance among:
- Lifelong Learning & Workforce
- Quality of Life Experience
- Marketing & Tourism
The year 2009, marking the end of the decade, provides an excellent opportunity to inventory these existing plans, and organize the stated values, goals, objectives and opportunities. This year also represents the opportunity to recognize, promote and celebrate the significant progress that has been made in Douglas County over the last decade. click on the above links to see some top stories or review the plans.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has approved placing the issue on the November 2010 ballot. 2008 Proposed FEMA Flood Zone Remap
In April of 2008, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) proposed remapping of flood zones within Carson Valley. The County filed an appeal to FEMA in September 2008, citing flawed hydrology supported by two independent reports. In May 2009, the County submitted a third report again refuting the conclusions of the 2008, Preliminary Flood Impact Study. FEMA has dismissed the County’s studies and informed the County that the Draft Flood Insurance Rate Maps will become effective in January, 2010. The County continues to appeal FEMA's restudy and remapping. The County's consultant, Manhard Consulting Ltd's preliminary findings and supporting documentation are available by clicking the two highlighted links.
