In June, 2004, Douglas County participated in the Carson Valley Conservation District Hyperspectral and LIDAR Imaging Project. Resulting from this project was a dataset of 1' contours for the majority of the Carson Valley floor. The use of LIDAR, (Light Detection And Radar), for generating contour data is relatively new. For more information about LIDAR see the following websites:
www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/sparcle/sparcle_tutorial.html
www.ncfloodmaps.com/pubdocs/lidar_final_jan03.pdf
The horizontal datum for the lidar data is the North American Datum 1983 while the vertical datum is the North American Vertical Datum 1988. The data has been converted to a State Plane NAD 83 projection. The 1' LIDAR Contours are available for mapping purposes and can also be purchased by the section in 2D or 3D DXF or .shp files. Click on the map to the right for a larger view of the contours. To view the area of availability of LIDAR data click on the availability link underneath the LIDAR example map. To purchase please refer to the GIS order form.
The 7.5' USGS Contours are available for mapping purposes only and cover the entire County. Contour intervals vary between 20' or 40'. For a larger view of the USGS contours map example, please click on the picture to the right.
For ordering information please call the GIS Department or refer to the GIS Order Form.
