Junk must be stored in an enclosed building, or up to 5 cubic yards can be stored in a rear or side yard screened with a 6 foot solid fence from adjoining properties and right of ways. In addition you are allowed to store up to 3 junk vehicles in a rear or side yard screened with a 6 foot solid fence. More than 5 cubic yards or 4 or more junk vehicles is a public nuisance regardless of screening.
Generally if you live in a residential area on less than 1/2 acre you are not allowed to keep poultry. You are welcomed to contact Community Development to find out what your parcel is zoned. 775-782-6217.
Some typical violations include the following:- A-frame (sandwich board) signs need a permit and are regulated on size and placement.- Banners need a permit and are regulated on size and placement and length of time. - Balloons and inflatable devices need a permit and are regulated by size, placement and length of time- Sail flags, wind blades or feather flags are illegal in Douglas County.- Off premise signs are generally unlawful.- Temporary window signs are limited in size and length of time.
